When I discovered Apriori Beauty, I had already been in skincare direct sales for many years and wasn’t looking to “start” a new business all over again. I was in the beginning process of building a career in real estate and was only interested in finding a new antiaging skincare line that worked. As the saying goes, “never say never” because after seeing the glowing difference in my skin right after sampling the products, I couldn’t keep quiet about this new skincare line – I had to share it with everyone I knew. Plus, with its rewarding business model, I knew there was no going back, I was going to be an Apriori Beauty Independent Consultant.

In order to successfully retail, you need clients. One common question I often hear is “how do I get clients?” One successful way to get out there and meet new people is networking. I attend as many networking and community events that I can get to. I joined a local BNI (Business Network International) group and even formed a Meetup.com group for women in business, where we meet monthly for lunch and networking. STP! As in “See the People” is important because you want to build a rapport with someone and gain their trust before introducing the products. When I first meet someone, I ask them what they do and inquire about how I can help them with their business. I invite them to other network marketing events and set up a time to meet for coffee where we can discusses our businesses (whether they be a realtor, an attorney, account, teacher, etc.) and ask to get their opinion on mine. Note, I don’t ask them to sample a product, instead I say, “Here is what I do, I’d love for you try out the products and let me know what you think.” Then I pull out a few different products and we discuss what they like, didn’t like, and more often than not, it can lead to a sale, right there in the coffee shop. If they don’t end up placing an order, I hand them a few samples to take home and try out. I never leave a coffee date without asking for referrals. Whether they’re interested in the products or not, it never hurts to ask if they know of anyone who is in the market for a new safe and effective antiaging skincare. The worst they can say is “no.”

It’s crucial you take advantage of the time you have with your perspective client and keep their excitement for the products going. Because it’s so easy for that excitement to fade once they go home, I make it a point to ask them if they’d be interested in inviting a few friends over to experience the products (aka a Beauty Bar). I quickly explain my hostess plan: each hosts receives a free Celloxylin® Pure Detox, Purifying Masque or an Enzyme Activated Micro Scrub, and if they purchase right now (while we’re setting a date), they can purchase the $145 Celloxylin® “In the Bag” set for only $116! Who doesn’t love saving 20%? Since I always carry an “In the Bag” set with me, she’s able to take home her new products that day and we have a Beauty Bar date set. It’s a win-win for everyone. Beauty Bars are beneficial for not only earning higher commissions, but for also gaining new clients. You have access to several prospective clients at once and if each person refers one friend, that’s double the new clients you have from only one event.

I may be a business builder, but I’m a retailer first. I love the right now money and getting paid weekly on my Apriori Beauty Visa card. Plus, happy and consistent clients often turn out to be incredible Consultants on my team, who go on to be successful retailers and business builders themselves.

S.ShaheenHeart disease apparently runs in my family. Unlike my older sister (who underwent quintuple bypass surgery at the age of 58), I’ve never smoked, my alcohol consumption is low, I exercise moderately, my blood pressure is low, and I manage to keep my weight down. So when I arrived in Las Vegas in November 2012 for Apriori Beauty’s annual ‘Making Life Beautiful’ (MLB) Conference, I was in denial when it came to what was going on with my body. In spite of being exhausted and completely out of breath from running from one airport terminal to the next, mixed with the constant indigestion, nausea and clammy feeling, it never once occurred to me that what I was experiencing was a heart attack.

It was the night before MLB was set to begin and I was getting ready to go out to dinner with a few of my fellow Apriori Beauty Consultants, Robin Whitney and Libby Jason. There was so much excitement amongst all of us, especially it being the presidential election night! At the last minute, I decided not to join them for dinner due to an annoying, uncomfortable, and painful upper chest indigestion pain. It wasn’t like anything I had ever felt before. Maybe food poisoning from the Mexican food and pizza I consumed recently? Robin and Libby were more concerned than I was. Robin decided to call for a hotel doctor, and the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino security team arrived immediately. Three huge men dressed in black came to my door and suggested I go to the ER just to be safe. “Maybe a gall bladder?” I thought to myself. I wasn’t going to argue, so Robin called 911 and within minutes I was on a gurney being rushed through the casino into an ambulance. Mind you, I was dressed for Vegas, not a trip to the ER. Covered in bling, flashy blouse, false eye lashes, sparkly eye shadow, and Periwinkle Apriori Beauty nails, the last place I imagined myself to be was in the back of an ambulance. The EMT attendants did a blood enzyme test in the ambulance and told me I was having a heart attack. They stabilized me and 12 days later I was released from Desert Springs Hospital with a rather horrible looking 10-inch scarring scab down my chest from open heart surgery. My husband and I stayed in Vegas a total of 21 days before I was approved to fly home to South Carolina.

I received so much love and attention attention from my husband Paul, my children, and all the wonderful visitors who came and saw me. Robin took charge and arranged for a timeshare Paul and I S.Shaheen (Before and After)could stay in and be close to the Las Vegas Strip. By the third day (after the 12 days in the hospital), my husband was pushing me in a wheel chair to some fabulous meals at the hotels nearby! It wasn’t a horrible experience…honestly, I was just so happy to be alive and on the path to recovery. It was a massive attack on a main artery with 90% plus blocked, but my main (and vain) concern was the unpleasant scar I now had. Fortunately for me, I’m an Apriori Beauty Consultant and have access to some incredible products that do wonders for the skin! Once I was released from the hospital, I started taking double doses daily of the Lifeoxylin® Cellular Defense Elixir. I had to wait for the scab to heal over the scar and then began the process of applying the Celloxylin® Treatment products including the PSR and Derma Firm Illuminator Machine on my chest scar. When I returned home to South Carolina and saw my new cardiologist, he was amazed at how fast I was recovering. My vitals were so stable, it looked as if I had never even had a heart attack. Plus, the scar was disappearing!

For something this traumatic to happen to me several states away from home, I’m blessed that my Apriori Beauty family was there watching out and being there for me when I needed them most. These extraordinary women are so much more than fellow Consultants. They are my Apriori Beauty sisters…forever.

Learn from my experience and…

  • Know your family’s heart health history
  • Just because you can function while experiencing unusual indigestion (and nausea, another sign of a heart attack) and you are not doubled over with chest pain, do not discount the seriousness and risk – call 911 immediately
  • Be aware that time wasted makes the damage more severe. I only needed one bypass because I got help almost immediately. If Robin and Libby hadn’t insisted on calling hotel security, which led them to calling 911, my situation could have been a lot worse.
