Get Motivated for Success

Have you asked yourself lately, “What motivates me?”  We’re usually motivated by several different factors; however, there’s always one trigger that stands out amongst them all.  Is it a challenge? Appreciation? Community?  Locate your trigger and utilize it to expand and build your business.

One of my daughters was having difficulties with reading, so she was put into a special reading program and has become a completely different kid since starting.  The whole family has witnessed her hard work and we’re consistently telling her what an amazing job she’s been doing.  She started doing better, and we started acknowledging it more.  The more we praised her, the better she became.  It’s funny how little actions like telling your kid, “I’m so proud of you!” motivates them more than a good grade.  My daughter’s motivation trigger is praise, which has not only improved her grades, but her self-esteem as well.

Along with praise, recognition is a popular form of motivation.  At Apriori Beauty, it’s important for us to recognize all our Consultants, even if it’s something as simple as congratulating them on their Facebook page for their retail achievements.  And it’s not just Consultants getting recognized by Apriori Beauty that motivates them, it’s other Consultants congratulating them on their achievements as well.  Elizabeth Vervynck and I recently had lunch with one of our Consultants, where the Consultant told us that prior coming to MLB 2013, she was questioning whether she should remain with the Company because she felt she wasn’t where she should be business success wise.  She prayed and asked for a sign that she was in fact on the right track and gave herself the three days at MLB to find her answer.  What’s incredible was that not only did she receive a sign the first night of the conference, but she saw several more signs throughout the three days that proved Apriori Beauty was where she was meant to be.  This motivation16Consultant saw that you don’t have to be the leader of the pack or featured on top lists to be involved in a great company and community.  Even if you’re not recognized with prizes or jewels, just being recognized for being you is a wonderful thing.

Are you motivated by a challenge? Ask yourself what truly motivates you.  My challenge for you is to locate that trigger and build from it.  Whether it’s a rewards challenge, a goal to make the Top 5 Retailer List, or increase your income, be sure to make a visual of your motivator so you’re reminded of it daily.  Now, let’s go and get motivated for success!

Supporting Your New Consultant

Support is the main ingredient when striving for success.  We all need it, and more importantly, we all need to give it – especially, when sponsoring new Consultants. A lot of Consultants lose momentum and come close to quitting after only two months because they’re unsure of how to start and establish their new business.  As their sponsor, you want to make yourself available and let them know they’re not in this business alone.  Without smothering them, stay in contact weekly, sending friendly reminders via text or email about Consultant trainings and calls (i.e. “Walk the Talk”) that they can benefit from, while including simple tips that they can practice and apply. Sometimes, your new Consultant may need that boost of support to help their business get off the ground.

With your new Consultant, I highly recommend go through the Starter Kit with them.  When they pull out the product samples, steer them away from handing out samples to family members right away because most likely, their family will automatically support them by purchasing products, or even signing up as a Consultant. Instead, ask them to make a list of new people they can share Apriori Beauty with and hand those 5 people samples. Our goal is to turn those samples into sales, thus helping your new Consultant gain an instant return investment!  Our products are amazing and once people get them on their face, they’re going to purchase.  Get your Consultant excited and encourage them to step outside their box.  Share your stories and situations you’ve come across in your business – your lessons learned can be their guiding force.peercoach

Here are a few tips on how to support your new Consultants:
1. Walk them through the Consultant Back Office and confirm they’ve registered for their Apriori Beauty MasterCard so they can get paid.
2. Go through the Starter Kit together
3. Help them make their list of 5 people to share their first samples with (don’t share samples with family because they will already support you)
4. Show them how to register Clients and place Clients order via the Consultant Back Office
5. Help them earn “right now/weekly” money and immediately see financial results
6. Encourage them to “sponsor” a buddy – a friend who could join them on this new adventure

Your support and motivation will be the guiding force in leading your new Consultant to success.

Taking Ownership

My eldest daughter, Shelly, recently turned 18 and the first thing she did was sign up as an Apriori Beauty Consultant.  Before, Shelly was always talking about Apriori Beauty with her friends at school and even had a cute little ViViD business going.  Most of her friends have long hair like her, and seeing Shelly’s lengthy locks tangle and frizzy-free encouraged them to ask her what she was using and start placing ViViD orders.  It was fun and cute but it wasn’t until she turned 18 that she really began to take it seriously.  The first day of her being a Consultant, I took a group of her friends and her to the beach and was casually “overhearing” them talk.  Imagine my surprise when in the midst hanging out with her friends, Shelly starts an impromptu sponsoring meeting, informing her friends of her new business adventure and how they can earn right now cash just by sharing the products.  I was speechless.  The words coming out of her mouth were things we’ve said and discussed at Consultant Trainings and Beauty Bars.  I realized then and there that Shelly really had listened and absorbed everything she’d heard while helping me at Apriori Beauty events.  My teenage daughter was listening and taking advice that had been given to her…proud mama to say the least!  As we were driving back home, I asked Shelly why all of a sudden she was taking charge full swing and her response was, “now that I’m 18, I own my Apriori Beauty business.  This is mine now and I’m going to take ownership of it.”

After signing up as a Consultant, a lot of people want to take ownership of their business but don’t know what the next step is.  They know that in order to grow their business, they need to sponsor Consultants and/or retail the products, but they don’t know how.  How do I approach someone?  How do I introduce the Opportunity?  Women aren’t motivated to sign up simply by their skin looking good.  As with you and me, they want to know what’s in it for them.  What rewards and benefits can they get?  How much money can they earn?  How often?  When approaching someone, if you lead your conversation with things that are fun and exciting, you’re more likely garner a response from them.  One great aspect about Apriori Beauty is that our Consultants get paid EVERY Friday on their MasterCards.  You can earn immediate money with this Company.  Let your prospects know what you’ve earned and purchased since becoming a Consultant. I challenge you to step outside your comfort zone and take full ownership of your Apriori Beauty business.  Start utilizing your surroundings and daily routines by turning them into opportunities.  Take charge of your business because if you don’t, no one will.  This is your Apriori Beauty business and you hold the power to make it become successful.

With several businesses and years of experience, I consider myself a successful Entrepreneur.  Which leads me to the question, what should people know if they want to be an Entrepreneur?

1. Enjoy what you’re doing.  That must be why I’m a successful Entrepreneur, I love my job.  The more you enjoy your business and what you stand for, the more natural it will be to share the product/business with others.

2. Create something that stands out.  Without a doubt, Apriori Beauty products stand out in the market place.  Our products feel great, smell great, work great, and are safe.  I stand behind our products and know they’re the superior products on the market.

3. Don’t give up.  I want to make sure you don’t fall victim to this trap.  Once you give up, you feel like you haven’t succeeded, which will likely lead you to do it over and over again.  We’ve seen Network Marketers who continuously jump from one company to another.  They give up on one company and jump to another, and then another.  They have to explain their new product and why it’s better than their old product.  Doesn’t that sound exhausting and come off as disingenuous?  Stay consistent and never give up on your dream or what you’re passionate about.  As an Entrepreneur, you must visualize your business as successful from the beginning.  It’s always about moving forward and if you’re in a slump, then expand your options and narrow in on what’s not working.  Remember, there are multiple avenues to approach your business, not just one.  Everyone has a different story with varying talents and schedules.  Just because it works for someone else, doesn’t mean it will work for you.  However, that doesn’t mean you’re in a hopeless slump.  Go back to what you’re passionate about and why.  In the end, passion is what will prompt you to work hard and hard work is what will lead to success.

Keep Calm and Carry On

With six kids and a business to run, people are often amazed that I’m not some crazed woman, running around like a chicken with its head cut off. My life can be crazy and chaotic; however, giving into the chaos would only make my life a constant stress battle.  I’ve found that the way to power through everything is to be calm.  When there’s chaos, it causes chaos around you.  You start jumping into it and everything gets out of control.  When chaos unloads, I ask myself how much it really matters to me.  Will it affect me 5 months from now?  5 weeks from now?  What about 5 days, or even 5 minutes from now?  Taking the time to really think about and analyze the situation will help give you a clearer perspective.

Calmness is the glue that will hold your business together.  It’s easy to get frustrated when things aren’t going the way we want them to go.  Especially during the summer when business is normally slow, leaders might get upset that their team hasn’t been as proactive in their business as they wish them to be.  Stay calm and be in control of yourself so you can be the leader that your team needs and deserves.  Set the example and show them through your actions of productivity, motivation, and calmness.

Another vital key to success is listening.  How can you motivate someone if they’re focused on something else that is bothering them?  Read between the lines and keep your eyes open.  Maybe your Consultant needs more information, has questions, or is feeling like their own business is at a standstill?  In order to know what they’re missing or not understanding, you need to have great listening skills and hear the things that aren’t being said.  This morning, I was going through and explaining Apriori Beauty’s Compensation Plan to a Consultant and dear friend of mine.  I had gone over the plan with her in detail and she still wasn’t understanding it.  I began to get frustrated until she said, “I don’t understand numbers like you do.”  It hit me; I needed to find a different and effective explanation of the compensation plan.  My frustration quickly turned to remorse as I was reminded that I wasn’t listening to her as I should have.

The next time a person or situation triggers you, ask yourself this, “Will this matter in 5 days?  Why is this upsetting me?  What is the outcome I want and how are my attitude and actions contributing to that?” Staying calm is something we should practice daily and the more you practice it, the more positive outcomes you’ll see.  Common sense, being calm, and handling situations in a productive manner are the keys to success.

Summer Solutions

In the midst of long sunny days and lounging at the beach, it’s easy to get distracted from your business and focus on the now: graduations, family vacations, and summer events.  Instead of letting your Apriori Beauty business fall into the summer slump, take advantage of the fact that everyone else is.  Your competition is already cut in half because their busy as well.  By getting into this mindset, you’re preventing your business from slowing down.  This year, kick-start your summer, don’t shut it down.

There is always going to be a reason why someone is too busy to hear you.  Especially in the summer with irregular schedules and kids out of school, the excuses stack up even higher.  Be prepared to challenge their excuses.  If someone can’t speak to you because their kids are home all day, ask her if she’s available to talk after the kids go to bed.  Be understanding of your prospects and Clients but don’t give up.  If you treat your business like a hobby, it will pay you like a hobby.  Treat your Apriori Beauty business like your ideal business you want it to be and you will be paid like it.

Just because you’re kicking your Apriori Beauty business into high gear, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy summer as well.  Come prepared where ever you go.  Carry business cards with you in case you run into someone at the grocery store, beach, or even your vacation getaway spot!  You never know when you’re going to meet that ideal team player. The more people you talk to, the greater chances you’ll find that person sooner.

Turn Your Sharing Into Selling

I’ve heard many of you state you’re not a sales person and that’s why you love being an Apriori Beauty Consultant because we don’t sell, we share!  However, that doesn’t mean we can’t utilize practical tips that are essential in turning our sharing into sales…right?  Using, loving and sharing Apriori Beauty is incredibly fun but also requires work and dedication for your business to stay consistent.  Here are a few helpful tips in guiding your sharing into incredible sales.

Persistence, not perfection is what gains sales.  A recent study was done and it found that 48% of sales representatives never follow-up with their prospective Clients.  With 2% of sales being made on the first contact, the odds are against you that a sale will be made unless you follow-up a second, third, even fourth time.  80% of sales are made on the 5th – 12th contact!  A majority of the time, it will take you several attempts with the same prospect before you make a sale.  It’s easy to quit on a prospect, especially when you’ve tried numerous times.  There will be individuals that will never buy from you, but never assume.  Perhaps it’s your best friend, family member, co-worker, even stranger you randomly bumped into and shared one time.  It could be that when you first approached them, the timing wasn’t right for them.  Maybe they were skeptical and needed proof the products work.  Possibly they were overwhelmed and skincare wasn’t their priority at the time…but it is now.  I can’t tell you all the times I’ve had a Consultant say to me, “I’ve been telling her about this for months and then suddenly she wants to place an order!”  The timing may be in your prospect’s court, but you control the steadiness of the tennis balls.  Before you put your racket down, whack a few balls into the court, reminding them you’re still there,waiting for when they’re ready.

Stop and Smell the Roses

We’re told to “stop and smell the roses” but how can you when you’re a full-time working mom with more lists running through your head than you can count?  There’s so many things going on around us that we’re not even aware of because we’re so occupied with the present and preparing ourselves for what’s next.  But, it’s in those minute times we’re waiting in the line at the grocery store or driving to our next meeting, that we encounter inspirational moments we can learn from.  The other day I was sitting in my car at a store parking lot and saw a little boy run into the street.  His mother immediately ran after him and instead of yelling “don’t ever do that again!,” she knelt down and explained to him why you look both ways before crossing the street and why he should never cross the street without an adult holding his hand. It’s moments like these that cause me to stop and think.  In a fit of rage or outburst of fright, our first instinct is to react instead of acting in the situation’s best interest.  We need to explain our emotions, not act out because of them.  That mom could have easily screamed and yelled at her kid because she was scared and frightened, but she didn’t.  She took the time to talk to her son and prevent similar situations from occurring.

Random inspirations and encounters don’t just happen to me, they come into your life as well!  Last week, we were up in Pleasanton, CA, hosting an Apriori Beauty Bar.  I spoke with a guest who had recently started walking to work in the morning.  Her husband and her only had one car to share and she decided that since her work was only a few miles away, she would make the commute to and from work on foot.  Instantly, she fell in love with her new commute and became aware of her surroundings.  Little acts of gratitude passed between strangers, the bright scenery around her, and new friends she’d come to make.

Next time you’re running errands or driving to work, try being aware and open to whats going on around you.  It’s the little random sequences in your day that make up this glorious thing called LIFE.

Persistence is Required, Not Perfection

Instead of sharing my thoughts and insights this week, I would like to post Consultant Sheila Morrision’s essay she wrote, titled, “Persistence is Required, Not Perfection.”  Please take a moment to read through as it’s a powerful essay with key points we can all meditate on and learn from.  ~ Susan Twellman, Co-Founder/Owner, Apriori Beauty, LLC

Persistence is Required, Not Perfection

What an ‘aha’ moment for me this statement was yesterday.  My sister-in-law was visiting for Easter and we were having a conversation about our faith in God, her recent dealings with the youth at her church, and her daily devotions.  She shared one of the authors and opened the devotional book and read the following sentence, “persistence is required, not perfection.”  It was as though I had been struck with a lightning bolt.  Persistence, not perfection.  Persistence, NOT perfection!

I have struggled with network marking for years…YEARS!   I believe in the concept and business model of network marketing and have found the Company with the best management; yet, and I STILL can’t make it work.  Upon hearing that phrase, I felt immediate relief, like I had found the end of the rainbow.  Here was the pot of GOLD!   A burden was lifted, my eyes opened, and I could see my future.  It was bright, sunshiny, beautiful blue skies, birds, singing, flowers everywhere, and…a huge smile on my face.

I went to bed that night, tossing and turning into the early hours.  I woke my husband up and told him what I had discovered.  I thanked him for supporting me through all this and then tried to go back to sleep.  With no luck of sleep, I headed into the kitchen, made a pot of coffee and began to write the following:

This business is easy once the light bulb goes off.  Apriori Beauty is so much more than a great line of skin care.  It’s a promise of hope, a guarantee of employment, a community of people striving for the top and pulling you up with them.  Where in corporate America do you get that?  Let me share with you the best of the best, the crème de la crème!

Stop looking for people who ‘need’ the business and start looking for people who ‘want’ this business. That person may be struggling financially, may be living down-trodden by a nasty boss or company, or even looking for something new to accomplish. So, you say, Sheila, how do I find them?  Ask!

For me, it always comes back to two things: questions and choices.  I choose to look for these people and when I find them, I ask questions.  The key is to listen.  What are they telling you?  What do you hear underlying their problems or issues?  NEVER assume you know what they want or need.  Keep asking the questions until you have drilled down to the deepest layer, you’ll know when you’ve hit it.

When you offer the opportunity and you are denied, smile, thank them for their time, and walk away.  Follow-up with them in six months to a year to see what has changed for them (which will probably be just more of the same or worse) and share with them what has CHANGED for you.  Remember this is where we get to choose the ones we work with!

Take the plunge!  What do you have to lose?  Wouldn’t you rather work when YOU want to?   Now hear this, you have to WORK for it. It’s called net-WORK marketing, not net-slack marketing.  This opportunity will give you additional income that comes out of thin air.  Currently, you’re a day-trader.  You trade your hours worked at a company for a paycheck and the company pays you exactly what you’re worth, right?  (Wait for the laughter to subside)  Oh, no?  And that raise you got, wow, you could hardly wait to get home to share that with your spouse and plan what you were going to spend that windfall on, huh?

How’s your retirement/401K/investment account looking these days? Oh, is that a sore subject, too?  Let me ask you this, would you spend $100.00 each month if you knew you were going to get a return on that money that would match your current monthly income from your j-o-b?  Now, don’t look at me that way!  Wonder how many months that would take you to accomplish?  Here’s the alternative.  You sign on to work for your present company for 40-45 years at their offer, making what you currently make, retire at age 65-70 and live on approximately 25% of your current pay. Do those sound like your ‘golden’ years to you?

The sad part is, we’ve been sold a bill of goods here in the US.  We were told to get a good job, work for a big company, and in turn, that company would take care of you for the rest of your life.  Think about that for a minute.  Where did that come from and where has that pipe dream gone?  The good news comes next, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it is not the train bearing down on you.  You have an option, THIS is the option!  THIS business is the opportunity of your lifetime!  The person that brought you here or sent you here is your messenger.  He/she is your harbinger of hope.  Get them to tell you why they came into the network marketing business.  Listen to them. Share, Don’t Sell

Recently I was on the phone with a new Consultant, Sari.   As we started talking, I asked her why she decided to join Apriori Beauty.  She replied, “I didn’t join to sell the products, I joined because I love the products!”  Just by listening to Sari, I could tell that her business approach was based on passion, not numbers.  There’s that word again, “passion.”  You’ve heard me say it before and most likely, you’ll hear it from me again.  Passion is what drives us and is the monumental factor in steering our business.  Apriori Beauty consists of passionate Consultants, not sales representatives.

The idea of selling is daunting to most, which is why I urge you to share, not sell.  When outlining your approach to business building, first remember why you use Apriori Beauty.  What is it about the products you love?  Why do you use these products and not others?  Share what you use and love, and others will want it.  By sharing, you’re relieving yourself of the unnecessary pressure of “I need to sell a product.”  Instead, your mindset goes to “I love X product and I want to share it with everyone I know!”

So, now that you know to share what you love, how do you go about sharing?  First, give your Clients samples to try and share with their friends.  When I asked Sari what her approach was, she relayed that when she gives out a sample, she asks them to take a before picture and to try the products for three days.  If after three days they don’t see any results, they’re instructed not to call her.  Bold!  Handing a sample to a potential Client and saying, “if you don’t see results in three days, then don’t call me,” shows you believe in the products and want to help them, not yourself.  Apriori Beauty may not be the skin solution for some, but for 95%, it is.  And by the way, Sari said that she has yet to hand over a sample with no results.

Or, you can reward your Client with the 3-Gets-1-Free Sets.  Do you have a Client who would love a free 30-Day Celloxylin set?  Propose this: “If you introduce me to 3 friends who purchase a 30-Day set, I will give you one for FREE!”  Who doesn’t want the opportunity to win something for free?  Create a fun, creative way for everyone to experience the products.  Hosting a girls day and sharing what you love is a lot more effective than locking someone in your car till they place an order.

So you’ve shared, sold, and now you’ve signed up a new Consultant.  Now it’s time to focus on your new Consultant by working closely with them for their first 30 days.  By teaching them, they in turn will teach their new Consultants, thus establishing a strong and effective team.  Walk your new Consultant through their Starter Kit and Back Office.  Help them get signed up for their Payoneer card.  There’s nothing more motivating than getting paid!  Lastly, let your new Consultant know you’re there to support them.  Team building starts with support and being a new Consultant, they will need your support now more than ever.
