What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas

What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas by Platinum Director, Susan Shaheen

S.ShaheenHeart disease apparently runs in my family. Unlike my older sister (who underwent quintuple bypass surgery at the age of 58), I’ve never smoked, my alcohol consumption is low, I exercise moderately, my blood pressure is low, and I manage to keep my weight down. So when I arrived in Las Vegas in November 2012 for Apriori Beauty’s annual ‘Making Life Beautiful’ (MLB) Conference, I was in denial when it came to what was going on with my body. In spite of being exhausted and completely out of breath from running from one airport terminal to the next, mixed with the constant indigestion, nausea and clammy feeling, it never once occurred to me that what I was experiencing was a heart attack.

It was the night before MLB was set to begin and I was getting ready to go out to dinner with a few of my fellow Apriori Beauty Consultants, Robin Whitney and Libby Jason. There was so much excitement amongst all of us, especially it being the presidential election night! At the last minute, I decided not to join them for dinner due to an annoying, uncomfortable, and painful upper chest indigestion pain. It wasn’t like anything I had ever felt before. Maybe food poisoning from the Mexican food and pizza I consumed recently? Robin and Libby were more concerned than I was. Robin decided to call for a hotel doctor, and the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino security team arrived immediately. Three huge men dressed in black came to my door and suggested I go to the ER just to be safe. “Maybe a gall bladder?” I thought to myself. I wasn’t going to argue, so Robin called 911 and within minutes I was on a gurney being rushed through the casino into an ambulance. Mind you, I was dressed for Vegas, not a trip to the ER. Covered in bling, flashy blouse, false eye lashes, sparkly eye shadow, and Periwinkle Apriori Beauty nails, the last place I imagined myself to be was in the back of an ambulance. The EMT attendants did a blood enzyme test in the ambulance and told me I was having a heart attack. They stabilized me and 12 days later I was released from Desert Springs Hospital with a rather horrible looking 10-inch scarring scab down my chest from open heart surgery. My husband and I stayed in Vegas a total of 21 days before I was approved to fly home to South Carolina.

I received so much love and attention attention from my husband Paul, my children, and all the wonderful visitors who came and saw me. Robin took charge and arranged for a timeshare Paul and I S.Shaheen (Before and After)could stay in and be close to the Las Vegas Strip. By the third day (after the 12 days in the hospital), my husband was pushing me in a wheel chair to some fabulous meals at the hotels nearby! It wasn’t a horrible experience…honestly, I was just so happy to be alive and on the path to recovery. It was a massive attack on a main artery with 90% plus blocked, but my main (and vain) concern was the unpleasant scar I now had. Fortunately for me, I’m an Apriori Beauty Consultant and have access to some incredible products that do wonders for the skin! Once I was released from the hospital, I started taking double doses daily of the Lifeoxylin® Cellular Defense Elixir. I had to wait for the scab to heal over the scar and then began the process of applying the Celloxylin® Treatment products including the PSR and Derma Firm Illuminator Machine on my chest scar. When I returned home to South Carolina and saw my new cardiologist, he was amazed at how fast I was recovering. My vitals were so stable, it looked as if I had never even had a heart attack. Plus, the scar was disappearing!

For something this traumatic to happen to me several states away from home, I’m blessed that my Apriori Beauty family was there watching out and being there for me when I needed them most. These extraordinary women are so much more than fellow Consultants. They are my Apriori Beauty sisters…forever.

Learn from my experience and…

  • Know your family’s heart health history
  • Just because you can function while experiencing unusual indigestion (and nausea, another sign of a heart attack) and you are not doubled over with chest pain, do not discount the seriousness and risk – call 911 immediately
  • Be aware that time wasted makes the damage more severe. I only needed one bypass because I got help almost immediately. If Robin and Libby hadn’t insisted on calling hotel security, which led them to calling 911, my situation could have been a lot worse.

Finding Your Beauty

LindaBoney“If someone told me three years ago that one day I’d pose for a glamour photoshoot and be a model for a day, I wouldn’t have believed them. For over 10 years, I suffered from adult cystic acne. The breakouts on my face and neck were so severe, I never wanted to leave the house and wished I could just put a paper bag over my head. The treatments consisted of painful extractions and needles. I received acid peels that burned and used prescription products which helped, but never healed the condition. I started seeking out alternatives and came across Apriori Beauty. I immediately fell in love and within only a few months, my skin had completely transformed! Since I started using the Apriori Beauty products, my self-confidence has increased, I wear a lot less makeup, and I only use my topical acne medication when needed, which is hardly ever. I am frequently asked if Apriori Beauty’s skincare can be used and will work for Women of Color. I believe Apriori Beauty works for all skin types — the proof is in my skin! It’s the quality of the ingredients that make the difference … Apriori Beauty stands out from the rest. Thank you Apriori Beauty for giving me back my confidence and my life. I am beautiful inside and out, and will be forever grateful!”  — LINDA BONEY, Consultant from NY

“I’ve been in Direct Sales since 2001. I quickly found that Network Marketing was where I wanted to be. It allowed for a flexible schedule, plus I could earn money while building new relationships. I have a very strong belief in multi-level marketing and was drawn to Apriori Beauty because of the Opportunity, and more importantly, the integrity of its Owners. Before there were any products to sell, I was on-board, not just as a Consultant, but as a Founder as well. I reached out to family and friends, and was quickly joined by many of them as Apriori Beauty Founders and Consultants. Since signing up in 2009, I’ve built a solid team and expanded my Client base. I believe business-building and retailing intersect, both requiring perseverance and a positive attitude. I love watching my team gain confidence as they begin to grow and promote. The same with my Clients – when they feel good about themselves, I feel good. This is definitely a relationship-based business. Before I approach a prospective Client, I get to know them and build a relationship with them. Apriori Beauty is such a young Company that there’s even more Opportunity for all of us in the future. I see a very bright and positive future. If you continue to believe in yourself and commit to your passion, you’re going to be very successful.” — TRICIA BAUMGARDNER, Founder & Silver Director from CA

Giving Back

“Disaster Relief has become a passion of mine and a place where I find fulfillment in helping and encouraging others who have lost so much. I’ve had the opportunity to visit different locations and help clean up and fix homes that have been affected by hurricanes and tornadoes. In the past, I have always been on a team, but now I’m ready to lead a team. With Apriori Beauty, I’ve gained self-confidence and belief in myself, stepping outside my comfort zone and walking right into fear and going through to the other side. It’s been scary, but I’ve found joy, excitement, and self-awareness in my new adventures. More importantly, I’ve realized that yes, I am worthy and deserving of achieving and enjoying my success.” — KATHLEEN JONES, Sr. Consultant from CA

Turning Dreams into Family Memories

“A few years ago, I decided to surprise my family with a vacation to Hawaii, paid for with my Apriori Beauty earnings. I established weekly and monthly goals and it paid off! I had been keeping it a secret from my husband, because I wanted to surprise him first. On Valentine’s Day, I shared the exciting news with him – the whole family was going to Hawaii over Spring break and it was already paid for! He was so happy and proud of me, which made it even more special. We waited until the morning of the trip to share the news with our two youngest sons that not only were we leaving to go to Maui, but that their older brother
Mitchell, who lives away from home for school, would be joining us. My family and I were so happy to be reunited on a beautiful island, where we had the opportunity to enjoy being all together as a family. It was one of the most memorable vacations we’ve ever had and I’m incredibly grateful to Apriori Beauty for helping me achieve this dream. I truly love what I do, Using Loving and Sharing Apriori Beauty, and am grateful for the opportunity to make a difference for others. With Apriori Beauty, dreams really can come true!” — NATALIE WALSH, Founder & Manager from CA
